“lbtm” part 2

September 2nd, 2008, 2:11 am

i woke up kind of early, missed not being able to read the news or check my email in the morning, and biked over to don’s. i picked up a bunch of furniture and a baseball bat. i saw one lying in don’s backyard and asked if i could have it, since his neighbor gave him a huge pile of sports equipment when she moved, and i know he won’t use most of it; he asked if i wanted a glove to go with it and i told him “nope, it’s for home defense”. that made me realize i’m kind of getting to live my dream of living in a bad part of the city. this neighborhood is arguably better than kensington market in terms of crime, but wanting to sleep with a baseball bat next to my head… for some reason that’s kind of awesome.

i haven’t had a dresser since i was 17! whenever i take the time to sort out my clothes – i should get rid of a bunch that i don’t wear – it will be a whole new world…of clothing storage. after that i dropped him off at his house and picked up my old loft bed from the place on bellevue. locked it up, threw the keys through the mail slot, goodbye tiny room with weird anal roommates!!!

i napped for a couple hours and was woken by a phone call, my landlord found a locksmith that’s working today (labour day). they came by 10 minutes later, and now i have new locks. i assume this means my place is safe now, but i still feel a little apprehensive.

bought teksavvy dsl over the phone, $39/month for 8mbit with a 200g limit is all right. i could get (supposedly) the same thing from acanac for about half of that, but i talked to someone (that actually uses their internet connection) who had horrible experiences with them and highly recommends teksavvy. it would be $30/month if i had home phone service, but i don’t, so i’m paying $9 extra for the dry pair. the modem should get here by thursday and service will allegedly be on by friday. i have no idea if the phone jack here is actually connected to anything, hopefully everything is working by saturday!

it feels SO good to leave dishes in the sink and know some idiot isn’t going to leave me whiny notes about it.
