like everyone who runs a blog that’s not somehow related to making money, here i am guiltily updating 20 years after my last post. i’ll be even more meta and post about how those people also frequently post about how they’d like to post more.

my life has been really weird lately. i settled into a routine after moving in may – go home from work most days, watch movies or play video games, hang out with friends sometimes, go to work parties once or twice a week, events with other friends maybe once a month. that routine stopped. i’ve been extremely impulsive, and either having the time of my life or bored. kind of introspective, too, which is not normal for me – the introspection largely has to do with my lack of emotion, though, which i find amusing. there are much higher highs, which make me notice/dislike the uneventful times a lot more, but i think it’s generally “worth it”. not that i have any control.

usually when i don’t have anything to do, i’ll watch tv or play video games. i’ve been having trouble doing either lately, especially video games…they just seem so boring. this has only happened once before, right when i moved to toronto when i was 18.

i’ve worked a bunch of overnight stretches at work in the last few months. about a month ago, i worked an overnight while i was sick and had stayed up almost all night the previous night – by the end of it i was completely delirious and felt like dying. two weeks ago i worked another overnight that led into a big day at work – i had planned on working for 24 hours straight, i ended up working for 27: 8pm to 11pm. at the end of that i felt decent: weird but satisfied. i wonder when i’ll be too old to stop doing stuff like that.

in the past couple weeks i’ve been getting a bunch of new music. i think my favorite thing right now is a song pair from of montreal’s false priest:

(they’re gapless.)

took a new full-time job in the technology field for an enormous company – after graduating with a music degree and freelancing for a year and a half

was sent on a two week business trip

saw three nhl games in one season (my second, third, and fourth ever, i think)

had a mysterious two-month-long respiratory illness

got dumped (amicably) by my girlfriend of two and a half years that i lived with

lived on sofas for two weeks while finding a new place (this sucked)

finally found a good place and moved in

and that was yesterday. my six month mark at the ‘new’ job is in about a week. it’s very weird living alone now. i haven’t been writing here much (eleven posts in a year?) because – i’m guessing – i just told rebecca everything, but now that i am Suddenly Single i feel like keeping this up.

i recently quit my weekend job, managing an art supply store for the last 3 1/2 years. goodbye curry’s! i will now be working full time for an awesome & huge tech company, starting in a few days, and i am very excited.

unrelated, here is the funniest thing i’ve seen today:

This Facebook ad is particularly heinous:
“IT’s” cannot sell “ITSELVES”, Chickens, and other animals, are most certainly not an “IT”, but *THEY*, *HE*, *SHE*.

And to sell their flesh, chopped up, possibly from multiple Chickens, for THREE DOLLARS FIFTY? Their lives are *priceless*

Heres something that Chickens are good at “selling”, that *THEY* are lovely, gentle animals, who love life, love each other, love *THEIR* human friends, that *THEY* love *THEIR* lives.

[...]

The least we can do for our Chicken Friends, and all other animals, is to respect *THEIR* individual lives, that *THEY* are not “things”, but other sentient beings, with just as much right to life as you or I.

They are why I promote Veganism.

i love so many things about this. chicken with a capital C. his attachment to his Chicken Friends (where does this come from?). he believes that his Chicken Friends love him. he proposes that Chicken life is as important as human life (!).

i wonder if he has blocked out ‘nature’, where foxes, raccoons, and dogs (which (“who”?) are all omnivores and therefore not “required” to eat Animal Friends) are all natural predators of chickens…or even better, that your Chicken Friends themselves are also omnivores with diets that can include mice.

i’m going to vote today! i’ve never voted for anything due to apathy but i guess it’s easy and i really don’t like some of the people running in this (municipal) election.

one of my least favorite things: clicking a link to an article that sounds interesting on the toronto star from my news aggregator, only to see this. rosie dimanno, the worst reporter i have ever even heard of. i will be very happy when one of her many cats (this is not based on facts but i feel like she has at least 5) eats her face off. i would rather read articles by this guy all day than ever read one of hers again.

why is she so awful? fortunately for me i don’t need to elaborate since torontoist has already done this so well. here is an excellent example of her wretchedness, and here are some more.

related to both of the above subjects: christie blatchford, who might actually be a nom de plume so that rosie dimanno can write for both big toronto newspapers, is almost as terrifying. when i say almost, i mean like 98 percent, so really close. the only good part about “christie blatchford” is that she has a cat AND a dog, so the likelihood of her face being eaten by a pet is that much higher.

edit: this old website is awesome. that guy has a much stronger stomach (obsession?) than i do to be able to read that much garbage.

i was just relaxing & looking at the caribbean when i saw it, and i couldn’t figure out what it was without looking it up. it’s obviously connected to a main Thing at its northeast corner, but that didn’t have any helpful features so i went looking around on wikipedia and stuff. it’s turkey point power station, a two-reactor nuclear power plant. in retrospect the two big reactor-looking things paired with two stacks and a lot of water stuff around it, combined with the massive electrical stuff outside of the parking lot, is pretty salient.

the “crazy nonsense” is a 168-mile long cooling canal. that is awesome

also “misfits” is a very funny new tv show.
